Hierarchy of jobs rank in Indian Army:

Before you start looking for a job in the army let us have a look at some of the ranks in the Indian Army from the top level to the bottom but each of the carries a weight which no other job can provide. Broadly it can be classified into 5 categories-

Commissioned Officers-

Qualification you should have for Indian Army:

If you wish to make your entry as an officer there are 3 options in front of you

  • After you complete your 12th standard you can make an entry as TES  (technical), keep an aggregate of 75% in PCM
  • While you are pursuing graduation( reserved for engineering students- pre final year-UES (university entry scheme), TGC
  • When you have completed graduation-SSC (short service commission), CDS (Combined Defence Services)

If you are interested to join the Indian Army as a soldier you should have-

  • Minimum of matriculation from a recognized board
  • Your height should be of 152 cms to 183 cms
  • 18 years of age
  • Must be an Indian citizen
  • You should be an unmarried male

 

Officers’ selection process- Permanent Commission:

There are two ways you can join the Indian Army. A permanent commission implies a career where you stay in the Army till you retire. So for the permanent commission you will be required to join the National Defence Academy which is Pune or Indian Military Academy, Dehradun or Officers Training Academy which is in Gaya

How to Join the National Defence Academy- you can take the NDA entrance option and join the army

  • If you are studying in class XII or after passing
  • Clear the UPSC exam
  • Clear the selection Board interview
  • Medical test

The selected candidates will get a preliminary training in both academic and physical for a period of 3 years at the National Defence Academy. On passing out from the National Defence Academy, the Army cadets will go to the Indian Military Academy Dehradun. Here the cadets will get some serious military training for duration of one year. After the successful completion the cadets are granted Permanent Commission in the rank of Lieutenant provided you are found medically fit.

 

How to Join the Indian Military Academy Dehradun:

The IMA is another place where you will be trained in all aspects of combat and tactics using technology and other latest tools and technologies. The facilities there are excellent for your all round development.

You will have to take the CDS Entrance Exam which is conducted by the UPSC. You can be in your final year of graduation or possessing a graduate degree and clear the interview process to join the IMA. Besides this you have to be medically fit.

The candidates will be trained for a period of 18 months at IMA and after successful completion they will be commissioned in the rank of Lt. the other ways of entering the Army are NON UPSC entries and there is now written exam for theme. You will be directly called for SSB interview.

 

Officers selection- Short Service Commission:

There is another way you can join the Indian Army and serve as a Commissioned Officer. The period for which you will have to serve is for a period of 10 to 14 years. At the end of the period of 10 years you have the choice to leave or go for the extension of 4 years. Here also you can resign any time during the extension period.

The benefit of this Short Service Commission is that you will be infused with analytical thinking, planning skills, and organizational abilities. All this will make you a valuable part of the organization that is the Indian Army.

 

Short Service Commission For women officers:

Are you ambitions and adventorus women looking for a career in Indian Army? There is a way, You can take up the challenge of Short Service Commission and show to the world that you have the courage and leadership skills to take on the work when need arises. The important decision to include women officers was taken in the year 1992 and the task of training has been undertaken by the Officers Training Academy.

The candidates who apply should have a graduate or post graduate degree to apply for this job. The selection process comprises of written exam and SSB interview. The candidates who clear both will finally have to undergo a medical test.

The candidates selected of Short Service Commission will head for Officers Training Academy which is at Chennai. The training will be a period of 49 weeks. The training is fully covered by the government of India and successful completion of the training will be awarded “Post Graduate Diploma IN Defence Management and Strategic Studies”. The officers who are granted shower Service Commission can be posted anywhere in India and abroad.

Jobs in Combat and Non-Combat divisions for officers:

According to your interests you can go for combat or non-combat where the work classification differs. In the combat section you have to go and face the army directly. So you can join the army as an infantry officer and have the responsibility of leading soldiers and defending the borders of your country by launching a counter attack. In the artillery section you will be responsible for handling missiles, join the Army as Aviation Corps, as a helicopter pilot. Searching for enemy position and reporting it to the artillery.  Also there is a armour section where you will be asked to hit the enemy fast and hard. The responsibility here will be to find out new ways to implement the strategies to hit the army.

Indian Army Recruitment-2016:

The Indian Army in a notification has offered job vacancy for both bachelor and married male candidates and for unmarried female candidates for grant of Short Service Commission in the Indian Army under NCC Special Entry Scheme.  To know more about the number of post for both NCC Men and NCC Women you can click on the link below

The selection process will be based on the following parameters like

  • Qualification
  • Group test
  • Psychological test

Combined Defence Service Exam:

If you are interests to join the Indian Army as an office cadre, you can sit for the Combined Defence Service Exam which is held twice every year. You have to go through the written test conducted by the UPSC and interviewed by the Service Selection Board.  Candidates selected are sent to one of the following institutes for orientation training-

  • Indian Military Academy- Dehradun
  • Naval Academy- Goa
  • Air Force Academy- Begumpet Hyderabad
  • Officers Training Academy

The women candidates are only eligible for OTA Chennai only. Those who join the first three institutes get a permanent commission and cadets who pass out the Officers Training Academy get short service commission. The written exam consist of

  • English (objective type)- 100 marks
  • General knowledge (objective type)- 100 marks

Indian Army Jobs Notification:

If you are looking for a job in the Indian Army then the good news is that the Indian Army has invited applications for 54 posts through NCC Special Entry Scheme 40th course. There is vacancy for NCC Men of 50 posts and for women there are 4 posts. You should have a degree from a recognized university with a minimum of 50 percent marks of all the years or semester years. The age limit is between 19 to 25 years as on 1st July 2016.
