Home remedies suggested for infants and toddlers

  • Drinks as much fluids as possible: Babies up to the age of six months should be given breast milk only. It helps to develop their immune system.
  • Lots of rest: babies need lots of rest in order to activate their immune system and to fight against this illness.
  • Vapor rubs: For babies older than six months, you can apply vapor rubs on the chest, back and throat. It will give them a relief from cold.
  • Honey: Honey can be given to children older than 10 months. Give a half teaspoon of honey to the children between the age group of 2 to 5 years, 1 tsp of honey to children between the age group of 6 to 11 years.
  • Gargling: Add a pinch of salt to a cup of water and gargle with it. It is an effective remedy for a sore throat.

Home remedies for elders to fight against common cold

  • Steam inhalation with menthol or camphor
  • Lot of rest
  • 2 tsp of honey regularly to curb a cough
  • Gargling with salt water
  • Nose blowing
  • Soothing food such as chicken soup, lukewarm milk and apple juice for scratchy and sore throat
  • Herbal tea should be taken as a fluid to enhance the system of the body

Well, these are the home remedies to fight against common cold symptoms. However, in some cases, common cold leads to certain types of complications such as lung infection, asthma, breathing problems and so on. Therefore, before it leads to a worse condition, it is better to consult with a local doctor who will ascertain that you don’t face serious illness due to cold.
